Hazardous Waste
UBC has more than 400 laboratories across campus and several research facilities located off-campus, which generate more than 95% of UBC's hazardous waste! UBC disposes of hazardous waste differently than solid waste – i.e. hazardous waste is segregated from solid waste and the disposal is coordinated via the Environmental Services Facility (ESF) at UBC-Vancouver Point Grey. Hazardous waste must be disposed in compliance with legislation, by following the proper hazardous waste disposal protocol. All lab waste generators and their Principal Investigators must complete relevant safety training prior to disposing of hazardous waste.
