Why is this section important?

Understanding which category your event falls under, will inform you how much time in advance you need to submit your Outdoor Event Application. Respecting appropriate timelines is critical to ensure the safety of your event.

Events are defined as a High Impact, Medium Impact, or Low Impact.

High Impact Events usually contain two or more of the following:

Significantly disrupts normal university operations and/or the neighbourhood
Risk to people or property
Road closures
Uses multiple areas throughout campus
Use of large power-boosted sound systems (e.g. concerts)
Alcohol for more than 100 people
Food for more than 500 people

Requests for High Impact Events must be submitted 6 months in advance of the event date.

Medium Impact Events usually contain one or more of the following:

Moderately disrupts normal university operations and/or the neighbourhood
Uses multiple areas throughout campus
Use of large power-boosted sound systems (e.g. concerts)
Alcohol for less than 100 people
Food for less than 500 people

Requests for Medium Impact Events should be submitted 3 months in advance of the event date.

Low Impact Events contain one or more of the following:

Limited use of physical outdoor space
Use of a single booth (e.g. pop-up tent, table, chairs)
Minimal event infrastructure
Food for less than 100 people

Requests for Low Impact Events must be submitted minimum 15 business days in advance of the event date.
