Dr. Peter Biar Ajak

Dr. Peter Biar Ajak (he/him) is a scholar and political activist for democracy and peace in South Sudan. He is a former political prisoner from July 2018 to January 2020 who Scholars at Risk advocated for. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Biar Ajak is the founder and director of the Center for Strategic Analysis and Research, an independent policy think tank based in South Sudan. He was also appointed to a committee under the President of the U.S. that is drafting South Sudan national security policy and strategy.

Antonin Lacelle-Webster

Antonin Lacelle-Webster is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at UBC. He is interested in the politics of hope and despair, as well as democratic theory and democratic innovations. He is working on a dissertation that explores the meaning and importance of hope in democratic systems.
